This policy explains how The Hobby Armoury (ABN 72 470 632 283, "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your personal information.
Businesses with annual turnover under $3 million are currently exempt from most of the Privacy Act 1988. The Hobby Armoury falls into that category today. Reform that would remove this exemption is under way but hasn't passed into law yet, and we've written this policy in line with the Australian Privacy Principles regardless, as good practice and ahead of that change.
What we collect
- Name, email, phone number, billing and shipping address
- Order history and product preferences
- Marketing preferences, such as newsletter opt-in status
- Basic site usage data via cookies and analytics
Payment details are handled directly by our payment providers (Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay). We don't store your full payment details ourselves.
How we collect it
Directly from you at checkout, when creating an account, signing up to our newsletter, or contacting us, and automatically via cookies when you browse the site.

- To respond to enquiries and provide customer service
- To send marketing communications, where you've opted in
- To meet our legal and tax record-keeping obligations
- To improve the site and our range
Who we share it with
We share information with the third parties needed to run the store and fulfil your order: our ecommerce platform (Shopify), payment providers, Australia Post and other couriers, and, where used, email marketing and analytics tools. We don't sell your personal information to third parties.
Overseas disclosure
Some of the platforms we use, including Shopify, may store or process data on servers located outside Australia. These providers are contractually required to protect your information to a standard consistent with Australian privacy law.
Cookies
Our site uses cookies for core functionality, like your cart, and for analytics. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, though some site features may not work as intended if you do.
Data security
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your information. Payment processing is handled by PCI-DSS compliant providers.
Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as needed to fulfil the purposes above, including tax record-keeping obligations, currently five years under Australian tax law.
Marketing communications
We only send marketing emails to people who've opted in, in line with the Spam Act 2003. Every marketing email identifies us as the sender and includes a working unsubscribe link, and we action unsubscribe requests within 5 business days.
Access and correction
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, request a correction, or ask us to delete it, by contacting us using the details below.
Children's privacy
This site isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes take effect once posted on this page.
